Organizers of the inaugural Hidden Gem Half Marathon in Flossmoor have announced a unique event to highlight the 13.1-mile course in advance, while also giving the first taste of a special brew courtesy of Flossmoor Station Brewery. On Saturday, July 13, Flossmoor residents, registered half marathon runners, and the just plain curious are invited to “Bike the Gem” and then “Drink the Gem.”

 

As part of the celebration of the first-ever Hidden Gem Half Marathon, to be run through the streets and neighborhoods of Flossmoor on Saturday September 7th, interested parties are encourage to Bike the Gem for a chance to get a sneak peek of the course as well as taste a special Hidden Gem beer developed especially for the Half Marathon. The leisurely-paced bike ride welcomes bikers of all skill levels and Flossmoor Police will provide an escort and traffic control, according to event organizer Sam Cutrara. The ride kicks off at 10am in front of Infant Jesus of Prague church, Leavitt Avenue and Flossmoor Road, in Flossmoor.

 

There is no cost to ride the course on July 13th, and no advance registration. Walk-ups are welcome. There is a small fee for the beer and an optional taco bar lunch that will be served at noon at Flossmoor Station for riders and non-riders.
